In the year 2007 there were 210 murders and in 2008 the murder rate dropped 15% to 179 murders which is still an extremely high number. In June of this year the FBI released its national crime data and it showed that New Orleans is still the most murderous city in the United States. The data also shows that along with being the “Murder Capital” New Orleans also has the highest rate of overall crime in the country. As of June 3, 2009 there were 81 murders and 1546 violent crimes. Many of the homicide victims have been between the ages of 14-21 years of age and sadly to say the murderers are in the same age range as the victims.

Hi Every One

We would like to invite you to our new social site, My Heart Beats New Orleans. This site was created in order to allow our fellow New Orleanians to respond, elaborate and address all of one’s concerns for the place we all call home. Of course we all know that New Orleans has many issues in which will be addressed as well on this site. We encourage you to speak freely and express one’s thoughts on what’s going on within our city. Please feel free to invite others. This site can also be used to advertise any New Orleans business, so feel free to be free.

New Orleans By Glendale Smith A Hurricane Katrina Survivor

Where did my city go, as I keep up with my homeless stroll?
I ’m thinking to myself I have to catch control. I need peace for
my soul. In the city of destruction where my people steady puffin this
contaminated air, but who really cares. New Orleans my city is
falling left my black and white people crawling. With tears and lonely fears, watching the man as they kill. Just make my body feel chills. Eating
Hot Sausage links off an air conditioner grill. Hunger is taking
control I'm watching my people loose there soul. To the bridge where
there's too many kids left with tears, there mommies gone daddy
singing a sad song, wondering what the hell is going on. Did you
hear that shot they had M16 and Glocks on old ladies and babies
these people are going crazy. I'm asking the Lord would you please try to save me. I just wanna see my babies.

Only God knows the truth but really what can I do, these New Orleans
people are being exposed to the truth of the word I know you might think I'm absurd but really my God has a the last word. Were they any that
were clean, are tell me the whole city was mean? Full of hate they
tried to dictate, how many lives could they really take? No I' m not
full of hate; I just think my people shouldn't procrastinate. Let’s
speak out, let’s show them what the city New Orleans is really about. New
Orleans this is our chance, to understand, that we all go through
some things. Let's just keep the faith, and always pray, and I
guarantee he'll move the obstacles out your way.

Through peace our souls are at ease, but how many had to walk
through the water and roll up their sleeves, asking God please let
me make it, and a few minutes later screaming I can't take it. My
city looks naked, strip to the tee, I'm stuck on the bridge they
forgot about me. No food, no water; Women with daughters, how many
more will drown in these waters. But it’s clean in the quarters, oh
yeah they having drinking parties. How drunk can I get to survive
through this, or is sober the only way I can get through this.
Goodbye to my to my city I kiss, My New Orleans people we can't go out like this. It's Our New Orleans; we're the ones that's taken it the
hardest.
